December 19, 1927 — February 27, 2026
Lois Marie Nelson Owen, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026, in Austin, Texas, at the age of 98. Born in Goodrich, Polk County, Texas, on December 19, 1927, she was the second of nine children born to Floyd and Bertie Dee (Hill) Nelson.
A woman of deep and steady faith, Lois spent much of her life serving as a devoted prayer warrior for her family, friends, and community. Her faith and inner strength sustained her and were an inspiration and comfort to those around her. Warm and welcoming, her home was a place of refuge—always open, always filled with love. Lois delighted in life’s simple pleasures: tending her garden and feeding the wild birds that gathered at her windows and feeders.
Her bright, infectious smile and tender care for others left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. Lois’s family remembers her as a steady presence, a source of encouragement and faithful prayer through every season of life.
Lois is survived by her sons, Michael Owen and his spouse, Pam Owen, and David Owen and his spouse, Alci Estupinan; granddaughter Heather Ann Owen; grandsons Sean Owen and Blane Owen; great-granddaughter Alyssa Ann Heady; sister Gloria Nelson Landrum; brother Bill Nelson and his spouse, Kathie; sister Linda Nelson Langston and her spouse, James; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews—each of whom was covered by her love and prayers.
She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 50 years, Frank Owen; her parents, Floyd and Bertie Nelson; brothers Tommy (Pete) Nelson, Thurman Nelson, Edmond Nelson, and Gordie Nelson; and sister Faye Nelson Landrum.
Celebration of Life: The family will hold a Celebration of Lois’s life in three different areas of Texas so loved ones from across the state may gather, share memories, and honor her legacy. Specific locations, dates, and times will be shared as arrangements are finalized. In lieu of flowers, family and friends are encouraged to honor Lois by planting a tree, creating a bird-friendly garden, or performing an act of kindness in her memory.
Lois lived a life of faith, nurture, quiet strength, and contentment. Her prayers, her smile, and her steadfast love will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
