Loraine Agnes Reese passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on August 29, 2024. Loraine was born on October 3, 1932, to Adela Frances and Joseph William Lempa in Victoria Texas. She was the Beloved wife of Bobby D. Reese, and dearest mother to Randy, Tim (Claudette), James, Barbara (Jim) Templeton, Kathy (John) Stern, Teresa (John) Carroll, and Jennifer (George) Smith. She adored her 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She enjoyed keeping in contact with her two surviving sisters: Rose Colby and Sallie Rosenbusch.
Loraine was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Bobby, her second born son Tim, her parents, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
Loraine’s parents farmed around the Lockhart area. They raised cotton, corn, maize, and cattle all with the help of their 9 children. Loraine attended schools in Creedmoor and Mendoza. Rogers Ranch Dance Hall was where she met her lifelong sweetheart, Bobby.
Loraine and Bobby moved to Austin in 1953. Loraine went to work at the old Seton Hospital in 1962. She started out making salads for patients and worked herself up to a Diet Technician. She retired after 32 years of service. Loraine was dedicated to Seton Hospital and loved helping those in need. She loved Seton and was always comforted if any of her loved ones had to be hospitalized there.
We would like to send a special thank you to the medical staff caring for Loraine on August 29th. We wish we knew you all by name. You all did everything in your power to help her and keep her comfortable from any pain. She knew she was in good hands. We also owe a debt of gratitude to Dr. Sarah Daniels for the years of care provided to Loraine. Loraine has never loved and trusted a doctor more than Dr. Daniels.
Loraine took pride in a very clean house and every Spring made sure her curtains were washed and starched. She was very particular about a neat and groomed lawn, all of which she did herself. After mowing and edging, she enjoyed washing her car, rinsing off the driveway and watering her many plants. She had a green thumb for gardening and enjoyed growing and eating her fresh fruits and vegetables. Loraine will be known for her chocolate pies, peanut brittle, cornbread stuffing, green beans, and potato salad. Her recipes were not easy to follow because she never measured anything; it was always a palm full, a pinch of this or that, or add “just enough” liquid. Soap Operas, yes, she loved them and looked forward to her weekly shows. She loved being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Nothing made her happier, except an occasional trip to Las Vegas or family beach trips. Loraine lived a beautiful life.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 5, 2024, at 6 p.m. with the Rosary beginning at 7 p.m. at Cook Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar, 78752. The Funeral Mass will be held Friday, September 6, 2024, at 11 a.m., Saint Louis Catholic Church, 7601 Burnet Rd., 78757. The burial will take place at 1:30 p.m. at Polonia Cemetery near Lockhart.
Although we miss you terribly, we remember you always saying:
“If you need anything, I am right here.”
Rest in Peace Mom
