Lottie LaVerne Ely of Georgetown, Texas, passed away on Friday, November 7, 2025, at the age of 97. She was born on November 28, 1927, in Marble Falls, TX, where she grew up on a ranch as the youngest of 7 children.
She is preceded in death by their beloved husband, Forrest Carlton Ely, her parents E.L. and Freda Michel, and siblings Carl Louie Michel, Etheleen Michel, Freda Marie Powers, Dr. Henry Michel, Jacob Gus Michel, and Helen Cade Tegge.
She is survived by her daughter Carla Lacey and Janet Luckey, and her adored son-in-law Cliff Luckey, as well as granddaughter Jana Howell, Miranda Young (Russell), great granddaughter Scarlett Howell, and many nieces and nephews.
Born and raised in Marble Falls, she moved to Austin at the age of 20, where she met and married the love of her life, Carlton Ely. Seven years later, they had Carla in Shawnee, Ok, and 4 years after that, Janet was born in Austin, TX. When they started a family, LaVerne became a full-time homemaker and followed Carlton’s career to Galveston, Clovis, NM, Irving, TX, and, finally, back to Austin, where they lived until Carlton passed in 1989. She continued to live in their house until a year before her death. LaVerne loved her large family and enjoyed sharing their genealogy. She was an avid gardener and always had a beautiful yard, enjoyed sewing and cooking.
The family would like to thank Comforts of Home Hospice for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in their final days at Mercy House. The support given by these wonderful folks was a God-send to LaVerne and the family.
She will be buried next to Carlton on Wednesday, November 12, with a graveside service for the immediate family.
