Loyce, along with her twin sister Joyce, was born in Smithville, Texas in 1942 to Leon and Lucille Volcik. She graduated from Midway High School in Waco and went on to graduate from the University of North Texas in 1964 with a BA in Education and English.
She married her high school sweetheart, William “Billy” Robert Martin, in 1965. "Mrs. Martin" taught 7th grade English for 33 years and was devoted to her job and her students until the day she retired in 1997. The Texas school districts where Loyce taught included Richardson, Georgetown, Plains, Tulia, Fort Stockton, and Midland. She developed lasting friendships from her childhood and her years of teaching.
Being a dedicated mother and wife was equally important to her, and she supported her three children in all of their activities and the teams that Bill coached.
Loyce was a faithful church member and the United Methodist Church was graced with her membership. She taught and participated in Sunday school. During her retirement in Ruidoso, NM, she was involved in Parish Health Ministries. Hymns and music in the church were especially meaningful to her.
Her greatest joy in recent years were her 2 grandsons, Stephen and Carter, who affectionately called her "Grammar". She loved making her signature photo books with poems for their birthdays every year. Designing cards, books, and care packages for friends and family was her favorite hobby. Taking daily walks and spending time with old friends and family were also of great value to her.
Loyce is survived by her children and their families, Todd Martin of Greenwood, TX; Cheryl, Rusty, and Stephen Teeter of Austin, TX; Burke, Holly and Carter Martin of Granbury, TX. Other survivors include her four siblings, Joyce Rice, Leona Hammel, Jerry Volcik, and Jan Oliver, and a host of other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband William Robert Martin and her parents Leon and Lucille Volcik.
