Lydia C Ruiz

Lydia attended the old Austin High School and graduated in 1968. She went on to attend nursing school and graduated in 1972. She worked as a nurse until she retired in 2019.

She met the love of her life in July 1967 and they were married in January 1968. They went on many adventures together. Lydia loved a good road trip and they took their girls on many summer trips and later did the same with their grandchildren. One of her favorite things was a sunrise or sunset walk on the beach.

Lydia was a devout Catholic and parishioner at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Kyle. She was also an active member of the Ladies Alter Society and an officer of the Austin Diocesan Council of Catholic Women.

Lydia was preceded in death by her parents, Vera Martinez and Pablo Cruz; her brothers, Johnny Cruz and Gilbert Rodriguez; and sister, Cathy Ann Ruiz.

Lydia is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, George Ruiz; daughters, Elaine Ruiz Smith (Doug) and Denise Ruiz Morris; her grandchildren, Zachary Smith (Cassie), Katie Smith, Bobby Morris, and Andrew Morris; one great-grandchild Wyatt Smith; and her brother, Ernest Rodriguez. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

The family would like to thank Dr. Yessar Hussain and the staff at Austin Neuromuscular Center and Three Oaks Hospice for taking such good care of Lydia.

Serving as pallbearers are her grandsons, Zachary Smith, Bobby Morris, and Andrew Morris; along with her nephews, Jeremy Rogers, Matthew Ruiz, and Ethan Powers.

A visitation for Lydia will be held Thursday, July 24, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, 2620 South Congress Avenue, Austin, TX 78704. A recitation of the holy rosary will occur Thursday, July 24, 2025 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, 2620 South Congress Avenue, Austin, TX 78704. A funeral service will occur Friday, July 25, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Anthony Marie de Claret Catholic Church, 801 Burleson St, Kyle, TX 78640. A committal service will occur Friday, July 25, 2025 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Assumption Cemetery, 3650 S I-35 Frontage Rd, Austin, TX 78704.
