On October 24, 2022, our lives changed forever with the loss of our dearest Maisie Elizabeth Melton. Maisie was born on October 25, 1998, in San Diego, CA. While she was born in San Diego, Maisie was truly an Austin girl at heart.
She started writing when she was only two years old, and she never, ever stopped. She could write for you a 500-word text message with perfect grammar and punctuation. She loved acting and singing and performed on stage with KidsActing Studio and in high school, and her voice sounded like an angel. She once sang beautifully at Carnegie Hall. She attended schools in the Eanes School District and Austin Independent School District, graduating a year early from Garza High School.
Maisie was a fierce advocate for women’s rights and was never afraid to spark a good political conversation and to let you know her opinion on the matter. She was a talented artist and creator. She was always happiest when she was working on an art project of any kind. She was our “golden hurricane” and her family, her numerous friends, and the world will miss her terribly.
Maisie is survived by her parents, John and Janine Melton of Austin, Texas; brothers, John William Melton of College Station, Texas and Thomas James ”Jim” Melton of San Antonio, Texas; Grandparents, Thomas June Melton III and Betty Elizabeth Melton of Austin, and Lynda Beth Tyler of Chatham, Ontario, Canada; Aunts and Uncles, Rixi and Thomas Brinkley “Brink” Melton of Austin, Heidi and Jeremy Tyler of Denton, Texas; Cousins, Logan Tyler of Denton, Ronny Rosenberg and Oliver Melton of Austin; Best friend Abby Darrow of Austin, as well as many great Aunts and Uncles from all over Texas and Canada.
A memorial service will be held on October 31, 2022, at 10:00 at Cook-Walden Funeral home located at 6100 N. Lamar Blvd, 78752. In lieu of sending flowers, please consider donating to Future Front Texas at www.futurefronttexas.org.
