Margaret "Pene" Henry, 60, passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2013, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. Pene is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, Jim; her daughter Kristen Floyd and husband Clayton Floyd of Gatesville, Texas; her son Brian Henry of Austin, Texas; her brother Floyd Alexander "Guy" Ellis, Jr. of New Braunfels, Texas and his children Cassie Ellis and Michael Ellis of Nacogdoches, Texas; along with numerous aunts and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Pene was born on February 15, 1952, in Richmond, Virginia, to her loving parents Floyd Alexander Ellis, Sr. and Margaret "Vonn" Rogers Ellis. Pene spent the majority of her youth in Mansfield, Louisiana, where she graduated from high school. Pene received her B.A. degree in Art History from the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
After college Pene embarked on a long career as a salesperson, first in Houston, then Dallas, and finally winding up her sales career in Austin. She held many varied positions in the sales industry, mainly in the food and pharmaceutical industries. Pene was actively involved in the community as a member of Impact Austin and Hope Presbyterian Church.
Pene had many passions in life. She loved traveling with her family and friends, and she was always planning a trip somewhere. Pene was an avid gardener with her very own backyard botanical garden. She was an animal lover and always had a house full of beloved pets. Pene loved playing bridge, pokeno, and bunco with many of her close and dear friends. Pene also participated in a bowling league with several of her friends, and although not a very good bowler, she had a ball doing it. That pretty well sums up Pene's life. She had a ball doing everything. She was the life of the party and everyone's friend. Her infectious laugh was her trademark and known by all.
Special thanks go out to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Texas Oncology, the North Austin Medical Center, and Seton Medical Center. But most of all, a tremendous thank you to all her dear, dear friends who cared for her, visited with her, laughed with her, and cried with her during the last two years.
Visitation will be Friday evening, January 25, 2013, from 6-8 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home at 3125 North Lamar. Her funeral service will be on Saturday, January 26, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Hope Presbyterian Church at 11512 Olson Drive. Burial immediately following the service at Austin Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Susan B. Komen Foundation or Emancipet.
