Margaret McKinney "Macky" Wilborn passed away Sunday October 5, 2008. She was born November 22, 1915 to William H. and Eugenia Giles McKinney in Texarkana, Arkansas. The McKinney family moved to Catarina, Tx. in the mid 20's to farm onions. Macky graduated from high school there as valedictorian of her class of five students. She graduated from the University of Texas in 1937 with a degree in bacteriology. She went to work the same year as a lab technician at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston. It was there that Macky met the love of her life, Sam Wilborn, a young medical student. Sam and Macky became Dr. and Mrs. Wilborn on June 21, 1941. Their 65 years of marriage physically ended with Dr. Wilborn's passing on Christmas Day 2006. Their life together was abundantly blessed and is now so again with their reunion in spirit. While Dr. Wilborn served in the Army in Europe from 1943 to 1946, Mrs. Wilborn worked at Children's Hospital in Dallas. He completed a residency in pediatrics after the war and the Wilborns moved to Austin in 1948. Mrs. Wilborn ran their newly started pediatrics office until motherhood took priority. Macky loved her boys, her two sons and all their buddies. From Cub Scout den mother to counselor in college years her role for many was as a source of strength, calm wisdom, and kindness……. unqualified kindness. Several members of that same family of friends continued to visit her up to and including the day of her passing. Those that were not there physically were there in spirit. Macky was unselfish by her fundamental character. All who knew her knew that. She was intelligent and curious, energetic and even athletic. But she was first and foremost unselfish and kind, a disciple for peace on earth. Sam and Macky Wilborn have been members of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Austin for 57 years. Their involvement as elders and on various committees has been central in their lives. Their church community and their faith have sustained them through the happiest and hardest of times. Macky Wilborn is survived by her two sons; Paul and wife Shirley, of Lampasas and their children, David Rathman and Kellie Jones of Lampasas; Marshall and wife Lynn Morris of Winchester, Va.; a sister, Sarah Torrace of East Lansing, Mi.; a sister-in-law, Margaret Wilborn of Houston; a special niece, Alice White of Richardson, along with many other nieces, great nieces, a nephew and great nephews; also two great grandchildren, Kobe and Dylan Jones.
