Mrs. Nelson,    Valarie called me earlier this week to tell me of Mr. Nelson's passing.  I am so sorry.  I will not be able to come down for the visitation or the service but know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.      Linda Ashley



Mr. Nelson was an active dad and Scouter in my northeast Austin Troop 333…40 years ago! . He was always encouraging. No doubt a dedicated father for John. He wasn’t flashy, and was refreshingly kind and straightforward. I appreciate the time he gave and interest he showed to us young Scouts…wish now that I’d been in contact with him subsequent to those youthful days and times.



Being in Troop 333 and having Jack Nelson as one of our leaders was one of the great experiences of my life. He made it worthwhile. I was an Eagle Scout because of him, and I was able to pass many of those experiences on to my son, who also is an Eagle Scout.



Jack Nelson had a tremendous impact on every Scout who ever camped at Lost Pines and many who camped at the old Camp Tom Wooten.  He was fond of recalling the good things that Scouts and Scouters did to help help the camp and the council.       He cooked for Tonkawa Lodge and personally recruited many of the Arrowmen who volunteer in the kitchen.



Jack will always be remembered every time we work in the Kitchen as he is truly the godfather of the AVK.



Mr. Nelson was always a great role model for me when I was coming up through scouts. He always had a great attitude and cooked a great meal.



Our thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of sorrow. Mr. Nelson was a wonderful person and will be missed.



I was saddened to hear of his passing.  My thoughts go to his family.  May your grief turn to happy memories.  The nation has lost another member of the greatest generation, and a fellow Scouter and Order of the Arrow Brother.  He will be missed.



I thought the world of Jack for the years that I knew him. A great scouter, always willing to jump in when there were things to do. He was a good cook and a super "Mess Sergeant." He will be sorely missed.



Jack was a great supporter of the camp program at Lost Pines Scout Reservation.  We could always count on him for friendship and support.  His humor was legendary.  The "big house" was never quite when he was in residence.



Jack was one of the greats and my prayers are with his family during this difficult time.  He was a mentor and a friend to countless young men in the Boy Scouts and will be sorely missed.  Rest in peace, old friend.



Jack meant so much to me as I was growing up in Scouting in the early days of Lost Pines.  I know that he with Ben Lindsey, Jack Swenson, and so many more are all around a heavenly campfire telling stories.      You are all in my prayers.    --Bill Fannin
