She began her elementary-school education in 1931 in British Palestine, where her Father worked on the construction of the pipeline from Iraq to Haifa, Palestine. She continued her education in 1934 in the USA & graduated from Thomas Jefferson Highschool in San Antonio, Texas. She then attended Trinity University for one year and transferred to the University of Texas at Austin, where she majored in mathematics. She graduated in 1946 with a BA and in 1949 with an MA.
Marjorie & John Harold Gilmer Eason were married, October 13, 1945, in Austin at All Saints Episcopal Church by Father Harte. They celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary on October 13, 2020.
Marjorie and John raised their three children in Venezuela where they lived for almost ten years, and where John worked in the Petroleum Industry. Upon returning, she taught mathematics for 25 years at Lamar Highschool in Houston, Texas, becoming head of the Mathematics Department.
Upon retirement, they moved to Georgetown, Texas, later to Austin, Texas, then retiring to Westminster retirement community in Austin. They enjoyed sharing their mutual interests: Travel on six continents, reading, bridge, ballroom dancing, classical & baroque music, ballet, and opera.
Their travels encompassed 40 years of adventures around the world beginning with camping in the American West. After exploring much of America they expanded their circle of travels to include every continent of the world from Canada to South America and Antarctica, and from Europe to Africa to East Asia. Their enjoyment of exploring new lands and meeting people from many cultures took them on 80 adventures, 40 of them overseas.
Her daughter, Captain Marion Elizabeth Eason (USMC), preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, John Eason, her son, John Eason and his wife, Evelyn McMahon Eason, her son Erik Eason, her daughter’s former husband, Lt. Colonel Richard Souder (USMC), and three grandsons & two daughters-in-law: Alexander, Adam & Sherry, & Andrew & Laura.
Marjorie was a joyful, energetic, loving wife, mother, daughter, and friend. She was the strength and foundation of the family, joyful in good times and astonishingly resilient in challenging times. Marjorie and John shared 75 beautiful years of marriage; they were deeply in love and best friends. She loved her three children and were their close friends and confidants throughout her life. She was loved and her company enjoyed by so many family and friends. She will be deeply missed for the rest of our days.
Marjorie passed away on May 28, 2021, with her loving husband John by her side, holding her hand.
May God, our Heavenly Father & Creator, Bless her with His love & eternal salvation in Heaven. Amen.
