

Marjorie G. Stephens Lucy Marjorie Greer Ramsey James Stephens, 77, beloved wife and mother, passed away Thursday, March 11, 2004, following a brief illness. Marjorie was born February 22, 1927, in Poyner, Texas, to Lucy and Julian P. Greer. She was always proud to share her birthday with George Washington. The third of nine siblings, Marjorie enjoyed growing up in a large family. The family highly valued education, as did Marjorie, and she received her B.S. in Zoology from the University of Texas. Marjorie moved to Baytown in 1950 after marrying William Bruce Ramsey. She taught school for several years before staying home to raise her family. Marjorie was active in Baytown community organizations including the Service League and the public library. Following her husbands death in 1971, Marjorie married Judge W.E. Red James and moved to Houston. Following his death, Marjorie moved to Austin and finally to Lakeway. She married J.W. Jim Stephens in 1989 and adored him until her passing. Marjorie loved gardening and the outdoors. Under her touch, every place she lived had a beautiful yard filled with flowers. Marjorie loved to read and was a wonderful scrabble player, bridge player and crossword puzzle solver. Marjorie loved to travel and, over the years, visited countries in five of the seven continents. She will be missed by all. Survivors include her husband, Jim Stephens; two daughters, Sara Ramsey Hearin and husband, Larry Hearin, and Mary Elizabeth Ramsey and husband, James Alexander; and two grandchildren, James and Callie Hearin. Visitation will be Sunday, March 14, 1:00 3:00 p.m., at the Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd. Interment will be Monday, March 15, 2:00 p.m., at Cedar Crest Cemetery, Baytown, Texas.
