

Martin “Marty” L. Markovich was born on June 19, 1952 in Cuyahoga, Ohio to Martin and Agnes (Gruca) Markovich. He had an older sister Jackie, and a younger brother Rick. As an infant, Marty was given the nickname “Lucky” by his favorite Uncle Joe because of his cheerful disposition and never ending smile. Childhood friends and family still refer to him as Lucky.
Marty graduated from St. Peter Chanel High School, Bedford Heights, Ohio in 1971. He attended Cleveland State University where he participated in an internship which allowed him to work as a financial auditor at Eaton Corporation while earning his degree. He graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1975.
Following college, Marty continued to work as a financial auditor for Eaton Corporation in Cleveland, Ohio. During his career with Eaton, Marty relocated with his family to Asheville, North Carolina and Battle Creek, Michigan working as the manager of manufacturing plants that produced automotive parts. He continued his career at Borg-Warner Corporation as a financial consultant where he lived in both Michigan, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He moved to Austin, Texas in 2003 where he was briefly employed at Michael Angelo Foods. Marty has continued to live in Austin for the past fifteen years working as a self-employed financial consultant.
Marty had two children, Stacy and Andrew. He met his wife Mary in 2011 and they were married in 2014. Together they shared a love of boating, traveling, gardening and remodeling. Although Marty had no formal training in architecture or carpentry, he could design, build, and repair almost anything. He volunteered for Austin Habitat for Humanity building homes in and around the Austin area to help strengthen our community by providing affordable housing.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Markovich; daughter Stacy Rue and husband Brandon; son Andrew Markovich; step-children Jessica and Dillon Rodriguez; sister Jackie Potter and husband Dave; brother Rick Markovich and wife Gail; four grandchildren Maddox, Oliver, and Ellie Rue, and Westyn Markovich; nephew Gary Collura and wife Missy, and their children Kaylee and Ty. He was preceded in death by his mother Agnes and father Martin Markovich, and numerous aunts and uncles.
Marty lived passionately, loved life, laughter and adored all of his family, especially his wife Mary. In the 9 years that they were together, they made more memories than most in a lifetime.
After more than three years of battling cancer, Marty died on Thursday, June 4th at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center. A memorial fund has been established at Austin Habitat for Humanity.
