
Mary Myrle Johnson Anderson Mary Myrle Johnson Anderson, 89, of Austin, passed away March 12, 2004. Mrs. Anderson was born on December 19, 1914, in Alvarado, Texas, the daughter of Drucilla Alice Chastain Johnson and Herschel Pope Johnson. She attended Alvarado schools. After graduating from Alvarado High School, she attended Weatherford College, then attended the University of North Texas and graduated with a BS in Speech. She did graduate work at Louisiana State University and at Texas Christian University from which she graduated with an MA in English. She took additional Graduate courses at the University of Texas at Austin. She married Robert Lee Anderson, also an Alvarado native, on June 17, 1939. They first lived in New Iberia and then Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Coronado, California during Mr. Andersons tour of duty in the Navy; back to Baton Rouge; then to Fort Worth, Bryan-College Station and Austin. A career teacher, Mrs. Anderson taught in school systems in Boz, Burleson, Alvarado, Fort Worth, College Station and Austin, retiring on May 31, 1979 with 30 years experience. She was a member of DAR and had served as Regent of her chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma, Assistance League of Austin, and Association of Childhood Education. She had also served as President of the Brazos County Teachers Association. She was a member of the Disciples of Christ faith and was baptized at First Christian Church in Alvarado. She later was a member of University Christian Church of Fort Worth, First Christian Church of Bryan and University Christian Church of Austin. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brothers; Herschel Chastain Johnson, George Ralph Johnson and Edwin Fred Johnson; nephew George Ralph Johnson, Jr.; and sisters-in-law: Nelva Satterwhite Johnson and Johnnie Sewell Johnson. She is survived by her son, Robert Edwin Anderson of Austin; brother, Francis Ward Johnson of Alvarado; nieces Judith Ann Hallmark and Ray of Katy, Sandra Nell Oney and Kent of Jefferson, Mary Kathryn Cogdill of North Richland Hills, Alice Karen Johnson of Alvarado and Patricia Louise Fitch of Austin; nephews Thomas Ward Johnson of McGrath, Alaska, David Edwin Johnson and Allison of Nampa, Idaho, James Richard Johnson and Brenda of Cresson, Barry Glenn Johnson and Cathy of Fort Worth, and James Bryon Johnson and Patty of Southlake; as well as numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Julia Bone Johnson of Fort Worth and Helen Pollard Johnson of Fort Worth. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of North Austin Medical Center, Retirement & Nursing Center and Lone Star Hospice for the wonderful care they gave Mrs. Anderson. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 22, 2004 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, Austin, Texas. Interment will be held at 3:30 p.m., Monday, March 22nd at Glenwood Cemetery in Alvarado, Texas.
