Our beloved mother, Mary Elizabeth Scott, of Austin, Texas, passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2015. Mom was born on May 18, 1927 in North Carolina to Fred and Arbutus Bryson. She was 87 years old.
Although Mom called the Smokey Mountains home, she became a Texan over 65 years ago. She met her much loved husband, Earl M. Scott, on Valentine's Day and they began their married life together on November 22, 1961. They were married for 46 years until his passing in 2007. Mary devoted her life to raising her four children but also enjoyed working in various administrative positions through the years. She especially enjoyed working for the City of Austin Planning Department after her children were grown until 1987. Mary & Earl were both faithful Christians and worshiped & served for over 30 years at Tarrytown Baptist Church. Mary felt a calling to join Park Hills Baptist Church in 2006 and that has been her church home ever since. She was blessed to have made so many treasured and lifelong friends throughout her journey on this earth. We treasure all of you.
Mom's hobbies over the years included hunting for treasures at garage sales, shopping, reading, working puzzles and collecting teapots.
Mary's pride and joy were her children and grandchildren and most recently she became a great grandmother. She is survived by her children, Jim Brice of Hutto, Beth Coffey of Austin, Kathy and JW George of Austin, and Laurie and Butch McBride of Austin; her grandchildren, Brandon Coffey and wife Michelle, Christopher George, David George, Josh McBride, Taylor McBride and her great grandson, Caleb Coffey. She is also survived by her nieces Betty Jane McKenzie and Melody Jennings of Florida, her sister-in-law Barbara Eakin of Killeen and her half-sister Wanda Marcus of Waynesville, N.C. as well as many more loved nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the staff and residents at Brookdale Parmer Lane where Mary lived for the past 3 ½ years…you all were so dear to her and we are grateful for the love and care that you showered on her.
Our mom was beautiful, loving, faithful and strong….
Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:
"Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all."
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
Proverbs 31: 28-30
