Maurine, joined her Bob, February 21, 2025. She was born August 6, 1933, in Fort Leavenworth to Andrew Schubert of St Joseph, MO and Maurine Lamar of Leavenworth, KS. Maurine grew up in Fort Leavenworth, with her loving grandparents the Coffman’s. In 1946 the family moved to Estacada, Oregon. While attending Estacada High School, she met and married her Bob, Robert L. Ward, May 17th, 1952. They were married for 69 years before his passing. After graduation their adventures began, when Bob was drafted into the Army. She served alongside him, moving from one assignment to the other with their 3 sons. They were stationed at numerous locations from Maryland, to Massachusetts, Georgia, Hawaii, Germany and Texas. After 28 years of service they retired in Harker Heights, TX.
Maurine had great pride in her government service, starting as a clerk typist in 1974. Ultimately becoming a Procurement Officer (GS-12) supporting our troops during both peace & war time efforts. She received numerous awards and accolades but cherished most the kind written notes of appreciation from her peers. After 20 years of service, she retired in 1994. A possibility thinker & lifelong learner, Maurine completed her degree in business administration, from The American University in Killeen, TX. Loving the arts and culture of Austin, they relocated again for their later retirement years, enjoying time volunteering as members of Zilker Park’s many gardening societies, The Paramount Theater as ushers, and as a docent teaching school children about plants. She shared their passion for gardening, plays, and music with their grandkids. She loved receiving phone calls and text from all of them. Often keeping grandkids connected by sharing stories and details of each other.
Maurine was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew Schubert, Maurine Bye, her two younger brothers Andrew Schubert Jr. and Floyd Schubert, & her granddaughter Kendra Ward. She is survived by her 3 sons Robert Jr. (Celinda), Bradley (Fatima), and Kevin (Lisa), 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, and numerous friends. All who knew Maurine, will miss her friendship, and generous kindness.
