Mickey Micaela Quezada Martinez, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at the age of 95, surrounded by her loved ones.
Mickey was born on September 21, 1929, in Lorain, Ohio, to Joseph Quezada and Victoria Torrez Quezada. She later moved to Austin, Texas, where she met the love of her life, Alex H. Martinez. They were married on June 7, 1952, and shared 68 wonderful years together.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alex H. Martinez; her brothers, Joe Quezada Jr. and Thomas Quezada; her sister, Elvira Moreno; and her parents, Joseph and Victoria Quezada.
Mickey was the heart of the family—the glue that held everyone together. She was a strong, independent woman and a constant source of warmth, wisdom, and unconditional love. Her gentle and caring nature left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She was especially known for her delicious cooking, and her tamales were legendary—if you never tasted them, you truly didn’t know what you were missing.
She is survived by her six children: daughters Velia Molis, Irene Martinez, Rosie Botello (Richard), Isabel Torres (Martin), Cathy Vasquez, and son Alex Martinez Jr. She was also blessed with 16 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Shannon and Jen from Magnolia Hospice for the compassionate care they provided to our mother and the support they offered during this difficult time.
