A wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, Michael Robert Brewer, aka Daddy, Pops, or Dear, passed away on Thursday May 7th, 2026. In the 76 years of his life, he had a lasting impression thru his dry humor and Pop-ism's, that make his wife and children laugh to this day.
Michael was born on July 31st, 1949 at home in a small community called Winesap in Eastern Tennessee. He was the second child born to his parents, William and Mildred Brewer.
When he moved to Austin in 1975, it took him a moment to find his soulmate, Alma. They dated briefly and he proposed to her at a restaurant called Fandango's. They were married on April 9th, 1982. Michael was a courageous, special man to love a woman with 4 children and take them in as his own. He will forever be cherished for this. The love of nature and racing was passed down to his children thru many summer family vacations to Tennessee and mud racing days.
Michael had a long, great career in construction with a specialty in drywalling, one of the toughest jobs. He worked, for a short time, with his dad in Oregon with a logging company. Most of his career was spent with Live Oak Construction for many years, but he mostly enjoyed the time he was able to work for his brother, Marti at his company, Kemco. Michael helped build one of Austin's iconic buildings, the Frost Bank tower.
Michael is survived by his wife of 44 years, Alma Jane Brewer; his children, Joseph; Nicki and her husband, Jack; Monica; Diana and her husband, Chris; Christina and her husband, Jon; Andrea; Amanda and her husband, Ben; sister Polly Brewer; brother Oliver Brewer and his wife, Joy; sister-in-law Silvia Brewer; brother-in-law Mark; 13 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews in Tennessee.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents, William Robert Brewer and Mildred Pauline McBroom Brewer; brother Marty Brewer(Silvia); sister Barbara Griffith (Mark).
Funeral services for his wife, children and grandchildren will be held on May 16th, 2026 at 11:00 am at Cook-Walden. Internment will be in Tennessee as his wishes were to be buried in Tennessee with his parents.
