Born on May 13, 1945 in Ft. Worth, Texas he was the youngest son to Blaine Emerson Shultz and Christine Sorensen. Mike had two older brothers Blaine Shultz Jr. and John Solberg Ove.
Mike was a study of almost everything. He was thoughtful, intellectual and interested in how things and the world worked. He was an entrepreneur and businessman at heart and enjoyed building companies. Mike was especially proud of being a national nominee for Entrepreneur of the Year. He had an amazing photographic memory which served him well in his early career in technology where he came up through the ranks at RCA and Signetics.
Mike loved to travel and some of his favorite places that held special memories for him were Carmel, Sonoma, Italy and other great destinations. He particularly loved his “boy” fishing trips with his brothers, sons, grandsons and nephews. Mike loved wines and to study every finite detail about them. It was a passion he found later in life, and he loved sharing his finds with anyone who would enjoy a glass with him. Traveling was always an adventure, but perhaps the most fun part of traveling with Mike was that no matter where you were, in what part of the world, he would run into someone he knew, and it would be old home week.
Mike was kind, generous with his time, knowledge and heart, and loving to all. Mike was interested in everyone he met. Mike always had a big, big hug for everyone, and he wouldn’t let you go without one. Mike had the gift to make everyone person he ever met feel that they were the most special person in the world. He often told each of his family “you’re my favorite”. This was Mike’s superpower – making everyone feel loved and special.
The family would like to especially thank Mike’s medical professionals that gave him the best care in the world over the past 15+ years – Dr. Shoba Reddy, Dr. Ian Thompson and Dr. Ian Thompson III of San Antonio, and Dr. Beth Hellerstadt. Thank you for giving us those years. To the medical and nursing staff at St. David’s Round Rock, we have nothing but gratitude for the loving care you gave to this man at his most hour of need.
Preceding him in death were his parents Blaine and Christine, and his brothers Blaine Shultz and John Ove.
Mike is survived by his loving wife Karen and his sons by his first marriage John Pinney (Vonda), Brian Shultz, Neil Shultz (Jennifer), his adoring grandchildren Nikki, John John, Jaxon, Biloxi, and Nick. He is survived by his brother in-law Bill (Irma) Zelina, sister-in-law Leslie (Stan) Gnesa and Diane Shultz. He is survived by nieces and nephews Blaine Shultz III (Erin), Hillary Lewis (Steven), Sue Ellen Banko, Michael Ove (Louise), Christopher Ove, Michelle (Nick), Anneliese (Vincenzo), James, Audrey, and Kenny. He will be sorely missed by his sweet Golden Retriever, Annie who stayed by his side until the end.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held later in the Fall. Donations may be made to the Center for Child Protection in Austin, Texas.
