Michael Alan Simpson, Jr. The light of my life, Michael Alan Simpson, Jr. born April 15, 1981 died suddenly, April 30, 2004. He was a recent graduate of the University of Texas in Austin with a BS degree in biochemistry. He was privileged to have been employed at Texas American Resources. Michael was recently accepted in the Institute of Cell and Molecular Biology doctorate program, which he was to begin in September. He was a member of the University of Texas Cycling Team. In 1995 Michael participated in the Lance Armstrong Junior Olympics, qualifying to go to the National Junior Olympics held in Ames, Iowa. In 1998 and 1999 he was selected as the first American to race with Team Aquila Ganzaroli in Florence, Italy. While cycling was his first love, his passion for science became the main force of his life. His goal was to discover the keys of life. In life, Michael was a bright, sensitive, quiet young man who had a deep intellectual curiosity. He had a great potential and sadly, the world will never see the fruits of his many abilities. He, like many young men his age, took great personal risks by drinking while driving at a high rate of speed. In the end, Michael paid the ultimate price. This is a great personal tragedy for those of us who love him. Michael would want to leave these parting words, FRIENDS DONT LET FRIENDS DRIVE DRUNK. Michael is survived by his mom, Lisa Camille Burgess and dad, Michael Alan Simpson, Sr.; grandmothers, Camille Burgess and Carolyn Leslie; and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, May 2, 2004 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Michael may be made to the Lance Armstrong Foundation, P.O. Box 161150, Austin, TX 78715. Arrangements by Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin, TX 78705 (512) 452-8811. You may view memorials online at wcfish.com
