

Monroe Thompson Jr. passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at the age of eighty. His Life Celebration service will be held at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church on August first at 11 a.m. His interment will be held at the Central Texas Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas August fourth, at 11 a.m.
Mr. Thompson was born January 7, 1945 in Austin, Texas to Monroe Thompson, Sr. and Etta Mae Clark-Thompson. Mr. Thompson was wedded to Patricia Rose Cuerington on September 15, 1967.
Monroe accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior at the age of 13, joined St. Stephens Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Palmer, and he was baptized in the Colorado River beneath the old Montopolis bridge. He later joined Mt. Sinai and remained strong in his faith.
He was the valedictorian of the old L.C. Anderson High School in 1964. Mr. Thompson attended the University of Texas from 1964 to 1966, and graduated magna cum laude from Concordia University in Austin on December 12, 1998 with a degree in Business Management. He enlisted into the United States Air Force in 1966, and served for four years during the Vietnam War era, including a year in Thailand where he was a Communications Specialist.
He worked for twenty-nine years in the high-tech industry with Infotronics, Texas Instruments, and Solectron. His activities in this period included working with, and testing, computer telecommunication circuits, and computer software. After working in electronics, he worked for the Internal Revenue Service for nine years, where he retired in February 2011.
Monroe is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Patricia, stepfather George Wallace, two daughters, Phyllis Marie Cartwright and husband Paul Adam, Cynthia Renee Thompson, three grandchildren, Tyler Cartwright, Collin Cartwright, and Alannah Dwyer, sister Edna Louise Johnson, two brothers, James Louis Thompson and wife Laura, Arthur Ray Grant and wife CaSandra, two aunts, Mrs. Sewilla Jackson, Mrs. Evelyn Clark, and a wonderful family of loved and loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father Monroe Sr. in 1952, and his mother Etta Mae Wallace on October 10, 2016.
