Mrs. Barbara Nell White

Mrs. Barbara Nell white was born February 25, 1931 in Austin, Texas to the late Arthur Van Smith and Vivian R. Brown Smith. She was the second of six children. She was preceded in death by: her parents and three brothers: Arthur Van Jr., Carroll Eugene, and Willie Dean. Barbara accepted Jesus Christ at a very early age at Grant Chapel A.M.E. Church on September 13, 1947. Barbara was united holy matrimony to James Willie White. To this union four children were born. The family joined Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church under Reverend E.L. Roberts. They later united with Zion Hill Baptist Church where Barbara served on the Usher Board and worked with the Mission Society for many years. She had to step away from serving when she became the full time caregiver of her husband when he became bedridden and her mother, until her passing. Barbara departed this life on Sunday, September 1, 2013. She and James would have celebrated 66 years of marriage on September 13, 2013.She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, James; one son, Michael T. (Cynthia) White; three daughters, Mary E. Davis, Josephine A. Wilson, and Anita (Ikaika) Kerr; 13 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild, with another on the way; two sisters, Della M. Pleasant and Vivian J. Evans (Rev. A. R. Evans); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
