Lillie O. Marshall was born in Round Rock, Texas on October 13, 1927 to the union of Quincy and Grace Sauls. She was the fifth of seven children born to this caring and loving family. The Sauls family relocated to Austin, Texas where each of the Sauls children would have better opportunities to pursue the path that would best enable them to achieve their life goals. Lillie enrolled at Tillotson College in Austin, Texas to pursue a career in business. Shortly after entering college, she met and married John Bennett "JB" Marshall. After spending some time in Texas, they moved to Portland, Oregan and later Oakland, California. Lillie started her 33 year career with the Veterans Administration in San Francisco, advancing quickly through the ranks. Career on track, Lillie did not forget her religious upbringing. She joined Greater Cooper A.M.E. Zion Church and remained a member for over 50 years. During her tenure, she was an active member in the Lamplighters, the Usher Board, and a Stewardess. Each group was given her full commitment. She was truly a servant of the Lord. Thank God for her life and her true dedication. Throughout her life, she brought balance with faith being the foundation for all. One of Lillies most admired qualities was love for family, in sickness or health. There was no limit as to what she would do for a family member truly in need. Lillie was preceded in death by: her parents, Quincy and Grace Sauls; three brothers, Wade, Alvin, and Quincy, Jr.; and two sisters, Annie and Lavera "Curly". Lillie leaves to cherish her memories: one sister, Etta Patton of Austin, Texas and a host of nephews, nieces, sisters-in-law, God-daugher, step-daughter, cousins, and friends, all of whom will miss her dearly.
