

Murry Roberts was born at home on August 18, 1939 in Georgetown, Texas to John Winston Wink Roberts and Frances Laura Sellstrom, both of pioneer Norwegian and Swedish Heritage respectively. Murry passed away May 11, 2006 in Garfield, Texas after a courageously hard fought battle with cancer. Murry grew up in Jonah and attended Jonah School grades 1 through 8. He attended Georgetown High School and graduated in the Class of 1957. He was in the United States Army Reserves from 1959 to 1961. It was at Durham Business School where he met his future wife, Patricia Jean Caldwell. Murry and Pat were married at Haynie Chapel UMC in Garfield, Texas on May 6, 1961. They started their life together in Taylor, Texas, moving to Austin, Texas and eventually built their own home in Garfield, Texas in May of 1974. Together they had two children, John Mark Roberts in 1964 and Roanne Muree Roberts in 1969. Murry and Pat enjoyed raising, breeding and showing English Bulldogs. Pat passed away suddenly on August 29, 1994 at their home in Garfield, Texas. Murry started his lengthy career in business at Taylor Bedding, as a bookkeeper in 1960. After a short time, he went to work as a bookkeeper for G.M. Bettis, owner of Bettis TV and Appliances. In his time with Bettis, he evolved from bookkeeper, to Store Manager and then a Partner in 1968. He, along with his partners, retired from Bettis, Inc. on October 20, 2002 after 42 years of dedicated service. He was a magnificent salesman and highly respected member of the Austin business community for many years. Murry was a true wheeler dealer and most of his deals happened after five oclock. Murry was a kind and generous soul who always helped anyone in need. He was the life of every party and was a funny guy with super sharp wit. His family and scores of friends will sorely miss having him in our lives. EVERYBODY loved Murry. The family wishes to thank all the great guys and gals at Southwest Regional Cancer Center and Hospice Austin for all special care and support that they gave Murry and our family. Murry was preceded in death by his parents John Winston Wink Roberts and Frances Laura Sellstrom Roberts; his wife of 33 years, Patricia Caldwell Roberts; his sisters-in-law Connie Roberts and Myrtle Faye Caldwell Weaver, and nephews Terry Dean DeVilbiss and Lee Caldwell Weaver. Murry is survived by his special friend and life partner of many years, Annette Hankins; his son, John Mark Roberts; his daughter, Roanne Roberts Stockman and husband Ron all of Garfield, Texas; his brother, John Winston Roberts, Jr., of Jonah, Texas; his sister, Linda Sue Berry and brother-in-law Donald of Liberty Hill, Texas; many cousins, nieces, nephews and lots of good friends. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm on Friday, May 12, at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home at 2620 South Congress, Austin, Texas. Funeral services for Murry will be Saturday at 1 pm Haynie Chapel United Methodist Church in Garfield, Texas with Dr. Richard G. Penna officiating. Interment will follow at Haynie Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bob Temple, Gaylon Brown, Blaine Hankins, John Snider, Larry Dial and Charles Perkins.
