Nancy-Lee Richards

Nancy-Lee (Everitt) Richards went to be with her Lord and Saviour, on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at her home in Austin, TX, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Newburgh, NY to Lawrence and Edna Everitt, on September 17, 1934.

Nancy graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1952 and then attended Flushing Hospital and Dispensary School of Nursing, where she obtained her Diploma in 1955. Her first job was at the hospital where she was born, St. Luke’s Hospital in Newburgh, as a Surgical Nurse. As life took Nancy to different locations she found new ways to use her skills at hospitals, clinics, doctors offices, and camps. After raising her children Nancy returned to nursing. In 1983 she earned a Certificate of Completion in Surgical Technology, which she then taught. Subsequently, Nancy went on to earn her Bachelors of Science in Nursing with highest honors from the University of Texas, along with induction into Sigma Theta Tau. She also excelled as an Instructor in Medical Studies at Austin Community College.

Nancy started dating her future husband, Larry, in 1953 while in Nursing School and they married on December 31, 1955. They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary in December 2018. They had one son and three daughters. Nancy and Larry had numerous moves around the country with the US Navy and IBM. Later on they traveled for fun and explored the world together on tours and cruises.

At an early age, Nancy accepted Jesus as her Saviour. He was the guiding light for her life. She was always involved in music. Nancy played the piano and flute but most of all had a beautiful soprano voice. She sang for her churches and did local operatic theater, often with her brother, Gene. She was a member of the Austin Civic Chorus for several years. She made time to volunteer for Girl Scouts and Missionettes. Nancy had a strong, abiding love for people. She was always ready and willing to help. Nancy loved the Lord, her family, literature, and laughter.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Eugene and Gerald Everitt and their spouses. Nancy leaves behind her husband Lawrence G. Richards; her children Lawrence G. Richards, Jr., Leanne & Garry Dunn, Jeanne Marie & Randall Marks, Merilee & David Abboud, as well as their eight very loved grandchildren, Nichole (Dunn) Williams, Sean Dunn, Scott Dunn, Christopher Abboud, Alex Abboud, Emily (Abboud) Widener, Charlie Abboud, and Aaron Marks. She also leaves behind three adored great-grandchildren, Evelyn, April, and Ayden Williams.

Nancy will be deeply missed, always loved, cherished, and her memory honored. She loved the Lord with all her heart, soul, mind, and strength, which reflected in all that she did. As the Bible says, “Well done thou good and faithful servant…” Matthew 25:23

Memorial Services, with committal, will take place on May 20, 2019 at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 8134 Mesa Dr., Austin, TX 78759 at 2:00PM.
