He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Nicholas and Erin Maulding, his sister, Mary Elizabeth Pavlini, his nephew Peter, his nieces Melissa and Hannah, and several close friends.
Nick was born on November 11th, 1952, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Dr. Hawkins Valliant Maulding Jr. and Edwin Mae Collins in Little Rock, Arkansas. After graduating from Mendham High School, he earned a degree in Nursing from Fannie Allen Memorial School of Practical Nursing in Winooski, VT. He served mankind as a psychiatric nurse for 42 years. Before he was called to nursing, Nick followed the Grateful Dead and his heart throughout the northeast. He was grateful to attend Watkins Glen, which he always emphasized was bigger than Woodstock. He loved to recant the story of when he met Guy Clarke at a restaurant and exclaimed “Hey, Guy! I saw you on TV!”, to which Guy replied, “I saw you right back, buddy!”
Nick was a passionate sculptor and a collector of knives, stamps, and coins. He drew inspiration for his carvings from designs created throughout the course of human history. He would often be found at his favorite local spots including Maudie’s South, the Catfish Parlour, and the Hill City Lodge #456, where he dutifully served in the office of Junior and Senior Deacon after joining the Masonic brotherhood in 2013.
Nick was a loving husband and father, a loyal friend, and the most giving person. He lived with a zeal most men envy, and his kindness knew no bounds. With his quick wit, love for humanity, and pretend psychic powers, he exuded a profound joy that will live on in the memory of everyone fortunate enough to know him.
