

Nicholas "Nick" Andrew McFarlane, 36, passed away on Friday, September 30, 2011. He was born June 19, 1975 to George Sherman and Carole Ann McFarlane in Las Vegas, Nevada. Nick spent most of his life in the Denver, Colorado area. Other places he made his home were in Nevada, California, and Texas.
Nick attended Littleton High School in Littleton, Colorado and graduated in 1994. After graduation he attended Red Rocks Community College in Denver majoring in computer technology. He later began work for IBM as a help desk representative which solidified his passion for technology.
In 1996 Nick moved back to Las Vegas, Nevada. He attended the local community college for a time and began working for the Las Vegas Valley Water District in Information Technology (IT). By this time, one could always find Nick tinkering with a computer or some other electronic gadget. Throughout his life he was known for having the first version of every new technology product available.
Nick moved back to the Denver, Colorado area in 1997 and continued to pursue work in the field of IT. He worked for National Farmers Union/QBE the Americas where he held a variety of technology positions. It was at National Farmers Union/QBE the Americas that Nick met and later fell in love with Susan Watson. Susan and Nick became best friends and "soul mates" and were virtually inseparable. They married on September 25, 2004.
In 2009, Nick and Susan moved to Austin, Texas where he worked for the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission. At the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, Nick discovered computer forensics and was anxious to transition into the field.
Nick was a kind, fun-loving person who was fiercely loyal to his family and friends. He will be remembered for his quick wit and intellect, spirit of adventure, and his pursuit to live life to the fullest. He was loved dearly and will be sorely missed.
Nick is survived by his wife Susan Kay and his mother Carol Ann McFarlane. He was preceded in death by his father, George Sherman. He is also survived by his brothers; George Jr. and Thomas Sherman; sisters, Patricia Sherman-Vowell and Sharon Sherman-Daun; brothers-in-law, Bozie Brooks, James Vowell, Terry Daun, Mark and Greg Adamson, and David Archer; sisters-in-law, Karen Archer and Kim Adamson; nephews, James P. "JP" Vowell, Jamal and Josiah Brooks, Levi Archer, Brandyn Adamson, Phillip Gallet, and Derek Lowery; nieces, Jacquolyn Brooks-Lowery, Joy and Jewel Brooks, Kristin Adamson-Gallet, Lara, Rachel, and Hannah Adamson, Holly Archer, and Jessica Adamson (Brandyn); great-nephew, Israel Lowery; aunts, uncles, and a host of other family and friends.
In lieu of funeral services a memorial service will be held at St Matthew's Episcopal Church in Austin on Monday, October 10, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. Another memorial service honoring Nick's life will be held at a later date in the Denver, Colorado area.
