

Norman Warner Houghton was born on June 21, 1929 in Hutchinson, Kansas and raised in various cities in Oklahoma. He joined our heavenly father after passing away peacefully on December 13, 2011. Norman attended Tonkawa High School then received his B.S. in Chemistry from Panhandle A & M College in Oklahoma where he also was first chair clarinet in the college band. He received his M.S. in Chemistry from the University of Oklahoma. Following college, Norman took a job as a chemist at Amoco and moved to Galveston, TX. It was there that he met the love of his life, Marie Grimm. They married and settled in Austin where Norman worked for Jefferson (later Texaco) Chemical Company for 30 years.
Active in Boy Scouts, Norman achieved the rank of Eagle Scout as a young man and later was a Scoutmaster for his boys' troop. Norman will be remembered for his love of the bible and his passion for hunting.
Norman leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Marie Houghton, as well as his five children and their families: David Houghton, Randy Houghton and wife Sharon with children Samuel, Daniel, and Christin, Barbara Beggs and husband Jim with daughters Rachel and Jenna Marie, Steve Houghton, and Janet Starnes with daughters Christine and Jessica. Norman was pre-deceased by his parents, Harry and Norma Houghton, as well as his brother Robert Houghton.
Visitation will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home in Austin, 3125 N. Lamar, on Friday, December 16 from 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Hyde Park Baptist Church on Speedway at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 17 with a reception following. The family will be holding a private burial.
