Oma was born in Missouri and moved with her family soon after to Colorado which became her home. She married her husband of 34 years, Paul W. Vorhes, and began the nomadic life of a happily dedicated military wife. She greatly enjoyed her family and traveling to new places; especially her time in Japan. Oma loved birdwatching, singing, dancing, bowling, cooking, gardening, and, most of all, making others happy.
She worked in various retail settings where her skills with numbers and honest hard work often meant that she was put in charge of how the “money” was managed.
Oma was preceded in death by her parents, Mark Ellis Browning and Alta Manuel Browning; three sisters; one brother; her husband, Paul W. Vorhes Sr.; son, Paul W. Vorhes Jr.; as well as her second husband, Robert Greggs.
Surviving family includes daughter, Connie Hockema-Galindo; son-in-law, Robert Galindo and his father, Raymond Galindo; grandchildren, Julie Kinsey, Jana Weaver, Doug Vorhes, and Travis Vorhes; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; nephew, Stephen Ader; niece, Hazel Howerton and husband, Jerry; and great-niece, Teresa Asante.
Heartfelt thanks are extended to the staff and volunteers of Cella Bella Hospice and Senior Care Services of Austin and Senior Care of West Oaks (Austin). Their professional and compassionate care gave meaning and happiness to Oma’s last days and gently led her to her heaven.
Also, thanks to Swan Song for her last “Big Band” musical experience. She danced in her wheel chair!
A Celebration of Oma’s Life will be at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, August 11, 2018 in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
