Walton, Opal Eviline, 93, passed away Friday, October 26, 2012, after a prolonged battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Opal was born to Charley and Agnes Cook in Star, Texas, Mills County, on January 27, 1920. She had one brother and sister, Arthur Cook and Nelly Cook Foster.
She met her husband, Lee Jay Walton, and married him on September 3, 1948. They then went on to have five children, of which four are still living. After celebrating their 64th wedding anniversary this year, Opal continued to live a relatively full life in Lost Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bastrop, Texas. She loved her baby dolls, feeding them, loving them, and talking to them. She made her own way in the nursing home, ‘working’ the paperwork at the nurse’s station, emptying the trash cans, and otherwise toting her babies everywhere she went.
She was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2005, and she and Lee Jay joined their daughter, Beverley Brown, in Bastrop in 2006. After progressions in her disease required more care than could be offered here at home, she was placed in nursing care in early 2009. She has battled both physically and internally, with this disease since then, and Friday the Good Lord determined that her suffering was due to come to an end.
Survivors of her passing include her husband of 64 years, Lee Jay Walton, residing in Bastrop, Texas, sister, Nelly Cook Foster and husband, Floyd, of Friendswood, Texas, sister-in-law Sharon Cook, of Richland Springs, Texas, daughter, Beverley Walton Brown, Bastrop, daughter Debbie Walton Parikh and husband, Nish, residing in Eugene, Oregon, son Lee Jay Walton, Jr. and wife, Ruth, residing in Elgin, Texas, and son Charlie Walton and wife, Liz, residing in Perkins, Oklahoma.
Her legacy will also be fondly carried forth by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other extended friends and family.
Pallbearers are Mike Walton, Roy Walton, Ronnie Michna, Don Zubetz, Tyler Hamilton-Zubetz, Johnny Johnson. Honorary pallbearers are Gil Woolbright, Matthew Walton, Milton Turnipseed, Charlie Brown, and Justin Zubetz.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening, on Monday, the 29th of October 2012, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas.
Funeral services will be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 30th of October, in the Colonial Chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas. Interment will follow in Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery, Pflugerville, Texas.
