

Patricia Prideaux Mathews 92, a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away at home early on the morning of May 4, 2013. She was born on February 1, 1921 in Stillwater, Oklahoma and raised in Brownwood and Austin, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents James Cullis and Dora Champion Jones and her beloved husband John Wood Mathews I.
Patricia was employed as an engineering draftsman until her sons graduated from high school. She then became a housewife and, like her mother, was engaged in voluntary service with organizations such as the Women's league of Austin, the YWCA, and Saint David South Austin Medical Center. Before her husband's death, they spent every available weekend on their houseboat "Our Excuse" on Lake Austin. She loved to play bridge, and did so weekly with her parents and husband until their deaths, and continued for many years, to play bridge several times a week with neighborhood friends.
She is survived by her two sons Champ Mathews, of Austin, TX, and Steve and Pauline Mathews, of Missouri City, TX, seven grandchildren, Crystal and husband Steve Prihoda, of Streetman, TX, John and wife Mary Mathews, of Maysville, NC, Steve and wife Tracey Mathews, of League City, TX, Lauren and husband Kris Bergmann, of Dallas, TX, Blair Mathews, of Dallas, TX, Blake Mathews of Houston, TX, and Brent Mathews, of Missouri City, TX, along with twelve great-grandchildren.
