

Patricia Kay Searight was born in Dallas, TX, on October 12, 1926. She was the only child of Colonel and Mrs. L. D. Stephenson. She attended part of first grade in Dallas when her Dad was transferred to Oklahoma, then to California. She finished Sunset High School her Senior Year in Dallas, having attended 17 different schools in all.
During her youth, she traveled all over the southwest learning to fish, shoot guns, camp, canoe and all things outside with her parents. During college at Texas Women's University, she became a member of the rifle team. During one match against the Texas A&M rifle team, she won High Point over all cadets.
As she was a child of an Aggie, wife to an Aggie, mother to two Aggies and grandmother to three Aggies, she loved cheering for any Aggie athletic event. She proudly displayed her Aggie stickers on her car. Her daughter and family attended Texas Tech which she supported unless the Red Raiders were playing against her Aggies.
She received her teaching certificate and taught 7th and 8th grade art classes at Crocket Jr High in Amarillo. She and her husband Bill lived in Amarillo over 56 years where they raised their three children. She taught for 20 years and was in an Antique Club, a Miniature Dollhouse Club and was a docent at the Amarillo Art Museum for 20 years. She was also active in the DAR, Mayflower Society, many duplicate bridge clubs and the Homebuilders Class at Polk Street United Methodist Church.
In 2010, she moved to McKinney, TX to be closer to her children. She died there on April 29, 2016, and will be buried next to her husband in the historic Oakwood Cemetery in Austin, TX. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 4, at Oakwood Cemetery Annex beginning at 11 AM.
A memorial service will be held in Amarillo at a time and date to be determined.
She requests that in lieu of flowers that a donation be made in her family's honor to the Polk Street United Methodist Church Building Fund, Amarillo, Texas.
She is survived by her three children Sally and husband Tim of Decatur, TX, Pat and wife Susan of Melissa, TX, and Gib and wife Kelly of Bedford, TX; five grandchildren: Eric and wife Marie Rieger of Decatur, TX; Brad and wife Jenny Rieger of Ft Worth, TX; Whitney and husband Rusty Cox of Melissa, TX; Kyle Searight of Austin, TX; and Tanner Searight of College Station, TX. She also leaves behind great grandchildren Gage and Mack Rieger; Emmett Rieger; and Paxton, Mackey, Kirby, Shepherd and Neeley Cox.
