Patrick Mayes Barry peacefully passed away at home in Austin on January 15, 2024, at the age of 73 after a long series of illnesses. Patrick was born March 15, 1950 to Kitty Bob (nee Mayes) and Othur Earl (Hank) Barry in Lubbock, Texas.
At a young age, Patrick and his family moved to Waco, then Odessa, before finally settling in Arlington, Texas, when Pat was 10. He graduated from Sam Houston High School. Over the years in Arlington he made many life-long friends. Patrick attended UTA and later Texas Tech before making his last Texas move to Austin in 1971.
Patrick graduated from The University of Texas with a Bachelors of Fine Art in 1975. This naturally led to his occupation in carpentry and historic restoration. A dedicated craftsman, Patrick took pride at the end of the day seeing something accomplished and well done.
During his residency in Austin, many new friendships were formed. His door was always open to them at his long-time residence at 709. He loved to travel and visited over 50 countries and most of the US states. Another favorite pastime was playing volleyball every Sunday at Bailey Park for over 30 years until Parkinson’s took away that ability.
Patrick is survived by his wife of 20 years, Dana Anthony; sisters, Anne Regacho, Lynne Henson (James); brothers Tim, Chuck (Mary), and Paul (Karen); numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces, nephews, and cousins. And lastly, Buddy.
The family would like to thank Patrick’s many doctors, his home care team of doctor, nurses, therapists, and finally Hospice Austin.
A celebration of life will be held later in the spring.
Arrangements by Cook-Walden North Lamar, Austin, Texas.
