Patrick Marion Coyle

On Tuesday, June 7, 2022, Patrick Marion Coyle, loving husband and father of two, passed away at his home in south Austin at the age of 78.

Patrick was born in Kansas City, Missouri on November 20, 1943 to Albert and Marjorie (Goudge) Coyle. Patrick's family, parents and two older brothers, James (Jimmy) and John, moved to Galveston Island were he grew up. Living down the street from the beach instilled in Patrick a love of the ocean and he was a natural in the water. He attended college at Lamar Tech, but his education was interrupted when he was drafted and served in Vietnam 1968-69. When he returned to the states, he moved to Austin and attended UT to study history. While he never completed his degree, he was a voracious reader and remained interested in history and politics all his life.

Patrick worked as a carpenter, framing houses around Austin, until he married and became a stay-at-home dad. Patrick married Peggy Jo Opela on April 14, 1984, and they raised two children, Katharine (Katie) and Julius. As a father and husband, Patrick broke the mold with his deep and abiding love for all things that grow. From the house-cats, fish in the backyard pond, and birds on the wing, to plants he tended and the people he loved, Patrick cared for them all. He was so loved by all the people in his life and the feeling was mutual. There will not come a day when he is not missed.

Patrick was preceded in death by his mother and father, Marjorie and Albert, his brother James (Jimmy), and great-aunt Ida. He is survived by his brother John, wife Peggy, and children Katharine and Julius.

A visitation for Patrick will be held Friday, June 17, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, 2620 South Congress Avenue, Austin, TX 78704.

A funeral service will occur Saturday, June 18, 2022 at 10:00 AM at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, 4600 East Ben White Blvd, Austin, Texas 78741.
