Patsy McElhaney passed away peacefully with her family by her side on October 14, 2010 in Austin, Texas. She was born in Goodland, Kansas on March 13, 1937 to Elbert Eden Wheatley and Ethel Grace (Bamfield) Wheatley. She graduated from Kirwin High School in Kirwin, Kansas in 1955.
Patsy met the love of her life, William “Bill” McElhaney, while in Kansas and they were married in Junction, Texas on September 13, 1958, where they lived for 48 years raising their family.
The first 25 years of Patsy’s married life was spent at home joyfully raising their three children through high school. After that, she decided to rejoin the workforce and bought a convenience store/gas station which she owned and managed for six years. Upon selling the business, she took the job of bookkeeper for West Texas Gas in Junction where she worked until 2006. She was a long-time member and Sunday school teacher at the College Street Church of Christ in Junction. Patsy was always a cheerful, positive-thinking Christian with a big heart, and kept herself constantly busy doing good things for others.
In 2006 Patsy and Bill moved to Austin, and in 2008 Bill passed away, just short of what would have been their 50th wedding anniversary.
Patsy is predeceased by her parents, husband and her sister Dorothy Stephenson. She is survived by daughter Michele Melo and husband Stephen of Austin, son Michael McElhaney and wife Laurie of Austin, son Mitchell McElhaney and wife Charlene of Kerrville and three grandsons, Kristoffer and Dennis McElhaney and Rocco Melo. She is also survived by her sisters Donna Jones and husband Al of South Carolina, Carol Jeanne Wheatley of San Antonio, sister-in-law Margaret Ann Brown and husband Tom of Crane, and brother-in-law Bob Bowers and wife Kay of Eldorado.
