Paula Deanette Horton of Cedar Creek, Texas passed away much too soon on March 31st, 2020 at age 65. Paula was born in Austin, Texas on March 14th, 1955 and was a graduate of Crockett High School. She lived in the Austin/Bastrop area her entire life. Paula was married to the love of her life, Mike Horton on May 11, 1979 and they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in May of 2019.
Paula worked for the law firm of Wright and Greenhill for 38 years until her retirement in 2017. Paula chose to help her community by volunteering as a mentor with the Austin and Central Texas Seedling Mentor Program where she formed loving and lasting bonds with her young mentees. More recently she was working as a volunteer with the Bastrop Food Pantry.
Paula enjoyed her many travels in the US and abroad with husband Mike, and she loved sharing stories and pictures of those trips with family and friends. She was especially fond of their time spent at the various Zoos that they were able to visit. She and Mike loved animals, and together they raised and cared for multiple generations of rescued dogs whom they loved and cherished as surrogate members of their own family.
Paula was a loving and generous soul, and has always been supportive of her family, friends and community. She was a dedicated wife, sister, aunt and friend. She never judged us, instead making us feel that we all had value and were worthy of love. She taught us the value of forgiveness. Paula never met a stranger. She demonstrated a sincere kindness and genuine interest toward everyone that she met. She made us feel that she really cared about us, that we were special. Paula will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to have known her.
Paula is preceded in death by her mother, Beverly (Gilstrap) Goldstein; nephew Paul Hovey Jr. (PJ) and niece Jennifer Bailey. She is survived by her husband Mike; father Charles; sister Gaye (Robert); brother Weldon (Mary); mother-in-law Molly; sister-in-laws Joyce (Jimmy), Ruby and Shelly; nephews and nieces, Chris (Lindsay), Nicole (William), Nathalie, Steven (Jericka), Tommy (Megan), Stephanie (Drew), Shawn, Genine (Jason), Michelle (Adam), Wesley (Kristina), Tyler (Magen), Guy, Randy (Polly), Linda, Kevin; Kim (Donna) and many cousins, great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Paula will be held at the Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Memorial Park, pending the end of “social distancing” orders enacted due to the Covid-19 Virus. May God bless us all.
