Peggy Suzanne Williams (née Voelkel) was welcomed into Heaven at 2:14pm on February 9, 2026. Peggy was born on August 6, 1941 in Fredericksburg, Texas. She is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Donald Williams, II; her parents, Oscar Ernst Voelkel and Isabel Tillie Lang Voelkel, and a sister, Jody Voelkel Furlan.
Peggy was a direct descendant of early German immigrants who settled in Fredericksburg and was a member of The Daughters of the Republic of Texas. She was baptised as an infant on August 31, 1941 and received her First Holy Communion at the age of 7 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed an idyllic early childhood in Fredericksburg surrounded by numerous family members including grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. No matter where life took her, she always considered Fredericksburg to be home. When she was eight, she and her parents moved to Austin where she attended St. Mary’s Catholic Academy. After graduation, she married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Don. As their family grew, they relocated to Houston where they reared their five sons in the Spring Branch area.
Peggy was a devoted wife and she and Don celebrated 60 years of marriage before his passing in 2020. She was also a passionate mother championing each of her sons in their many ventures. She never missed a game or an opportunity to cheer them on. She was their biggest fan, cheered the loudest and never missed a moment to show up. As they grew into adulthood, she remained steadfast in her support and was more than a little proud. Those memories of her are the real cherished family heirlooms they carry forever.
As a life-long Catholic, Peggy was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Houston where she was the Chairperson of Eucharistic Ministers for 10 years. She scheduled and assisted the training of 200 Eucharist Lay Ministers. When she and Don moved back to Austin for their retirement years, they attended St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. Her faith was her guiding compass.
Gardening was a passion, so much so that she attended Houston Community College to study landscape design in the early 80’s. Her yard was her canvas and winning “Yard of the Month” was proof of her gift as the competition was rather stiff in a neighborhood of fellow gardeners. She was the Spring Shadows Civic Association, Section Representative and Co-Chair of the Landscape Committee. She was active in the PTA serving as chair of numerous committees and was awarded lifetime membership in the Parent/Teachers Association. After her sons were grown, she worked for the Harris County Sheriff’s Department and upon her and Don’s move back to Austin, she worked for the Travis County Sheriff’s Department. She even found time to become a Certified Open Water Diver, was a talented artist who enjoyed painting and an avid reader.
One of the fondest memories of her grandchildren were the summer trips to the beach with their “Oma.” Peggy loved the beach and loved taking her grands for summer get-aways when they were young. Days were filled with shelling, playing on the beach and in the ocean, and art projects. As the grandchildren grew, she was always up for any game they chose–even Cards Against Humanity. Her laugh was contagious and her grandchildren adored her. Everyone who knew her loved her.
She is survived by her five sons, Clarence (Clay) Donald Williams, III and partner, Dana King; David Carlyle Williams & his wife, Terri, and sons Colton, Nathaniel & his wife, Brittani, and Samuel; Corey Damon Williams and his wife, Stacie, and sons Maxwell & Mason; Oscar Eric Williams and his wife Laurie, and her son, Patrick; Garrett Lang Williams & his wife, Maria, his daughter, Emma (her mother, Beth); and a sister, Terri Voelkel Balboa.
Pallbearers are her six grandchildren, Colton Lawrence Williams, Nathaniel David Williams, Samuel Clay Williams, Maxwell Kurtis Williams, Mason Li Williams, and Emma Isabella Williams.
A visitation will be held at the Mausoleum located on the property of the Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home located at 6300 West William Cannon Drive, Austin, Texas 78749, on February 23, 2026, from 10:00am-12:00pm. A graveside service will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home & Memorial Park in the garden of Sunset Ridge.
