Our mother, had traditional virtues of "diligence and prudence.” She willingly sacrificed her personal needs and enjoyment for that of her husband and children. This thoughtfulness and selflessness may seem ordinary to most, but these virtues are deeply meaningful to our family.
My mother’s efforts to her family were unwavering. She was very generous to others and always made sure to care for her loved ones. She dedicated her life to being a housewife who took care of her family, her children, and her grandchildren. In 1988, she immigrated to the United States to join her daughter, Hsiao-Yun Jung. She would often balance her time traveling back and forth to Taiwan and the United States to help her children and grandchildren. Coming to the United States had many great challenges, she knew she needed to learn English. She diligently studied English to prepare for her American citizenship. She began with learning her ABCs, then how to write her name, address, and phone number. She would spend countless hours learning and listening how to speak English.
My mother was also a talented cook. Being born in northern China, she cultivated her talents in making dumplings, steamed buns, and mein (Chinese noodles). It was always delicious and praised by everyone. One of her greatest hobbies was knitting. She loved to knit all kinds of things from blankets to sweaters.
Our mother was a strong and traditional woman. She remained active until her final day. She attended a senior citizen daycare school everyday. She would often travel with her daughter, Hsiao-Yun, to visit her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation for Pei Hsin will be held Friday, December 30, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas 78752. Funeral service will follow at 11:00am to honor and remember my great and beautiful mother.
