Phil was born on March 21, 1948 in Culver, Indiana to Irvin and Irma (Stevens) Overmyer. The family moved to Illinois shortly after. While he was young, Phil often enjoyed spending his summers at his grandparents’ farm back in Culver, Indiana. He graduated from Naperville High School in 1966. He went on to graduate from the University of Illinois with a masters degree in Electrical Engineering. While he was there, he managed the University’s radio station, WPGU.
After graduation Phil worked for Illinois Bell and had a very successful career in telecommunications with AT&T. He met his wife, Patricia, in New York and they married in 1980. He attended the prestigious Sloan program at Stanford University and then moved to Singapore in 1989, where he worked for AT&T until 2001. After retiring, he took a position as Managing Director of the Singapore International Chamber of Commerce, where he worked until 2014. Phil loved his life in Singapore and all the people he met and travels he took. He enjoyed hiking and nature photography. Some of his favorite photos were of New England. He loved going out to dinner with friends and enjoyed lively conversations. He and his wife retired to Austin, TX.
Mr. Overmyer is survived by his wife, Patricia; his brother Steve: his cousin Linda; his daughter Cheryl, her husband Rob and granddaughter Juliette; and his son Michael, his wife Elaine and two grandsons, John and William.
