

Phyllis Church Exline, 80, loving wife, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and dearly loved friend passed away on Monday, August 4, 2008 in Austin, Texas. Phyllis was born October 30, 1927 in New Orleans, Louisiana to John and Ann Church. After graduating from the Sacred Heart Academy in New Orleans, Louisiana, she attended Sophie Newcomb College and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. On November 15, 1947, she married Dr. Albert Lobdell (Lob) Exline, Jr. of Dallas, Texas in New Orleans, Louisiana. This marked the beginning of a wonder filled 60-year journey together. Lob and Phyllis lived in Boston, Philadelphia, and Fort Worth before settling in Austin in 1952. They also spent a year in Ann Arbor, Michigan and San Francisco, California. Together, with family and close friends, they travelled the world with a sense of fun and adventure. Phyllis was active in the community and active in her support of family and friends. She was a member of the Austin Womans Club and served on the board of the Lone Star Council of the Girl Scouts of America. For almost 50 years, she actively participated in the monthly DMC lunch group with her many close friends whom she loved dearly. To know Phyllis was to be touched by her kindness, presence, and grace. Family and friends will always remember her love, courage, and support, and her strong, steady, and calm demeanor. Phyllis was baptized a Roman Catholic and attended the University Catholic Center on The University of Texas at Austin campus. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ann Church, and her brother Jack Church. She is survived by her husband Lob Exline; her daughters and sons-in-law Ann and Michael Barrow and Meg and David Brown; her grandchildren, Jennie Shields and her husband Ben Shields, Melinda Brown, Richard Brown, and Sara Brown; her great¬-grandchild Chloe Shields; her sister and brother-in-law Cynthia and Frank Allen; and her brother and sister-in-law Don and Jo Church. She has many nieces, nephews, grand¬nieces and grand-nephews and extended family and friends all over the world. A celebration of Phyllis' life will be held at University Catholic Center, 2010 University Ave., on Thursday, August 7th with 1:00 pm visitation and 3:00 pm Mass. Courtesy parking at Dobie Center garage has been arranged. Private interment will be at Remembrance Gardens at a later date.
