Priscilla was born in New York City, to Hubert and Mildred Pye. They moved to Amarillo, where she attended high school and developed a love for acting. She performed or worked on almost twenty plays. In 1974, she obtained a bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston, graduating Summa Cum Laude. Two years later, she obtained a master’s degree in speech pathology.
Priscilla began working in Austin, starting a private speech pathology practice. This was her professional passion. She helped speech patients from every part of the Austin community, including many prominent musicians. In 1986, she married Jon Emery, an Austin musician. Priscilla loved to travel and picked up photography as a hobby while on a solo trip to Greece. In 1987, she traveled by herself to Nicaragua during the country’s Civil War. She returned with a photography exhibit called Impressions of Nicaragua.
In 1989, Priscilla had a son, Joe. She embraced and enjoyed the experience of motherhood. Priscilla gradually moved away from her private practice and began consulting as a speech pathologist for Texas Disability Services. She and Jon divorced in 1996 but remained good friends.
Priscilla was brave, brilliant, and driven. She was also very beautiful. On Saturdays and Sundays, she could be found circling Austin, thrift shopping and sifting through yard sales with her best friend Blanche. She loved Tai Chi, Yoga, and rowing. Priscilla will be remembered for her bright presence and her social grace.
She is survived by her son, Joe, her sister Ginger, her brother Randy, her ex-husband Jon, her best friend Blanche, her niece, her nephews, and many friends.
A graveside service for Priscilla will be held Friday, January 7, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock Drive, Austin, Texas 78731.
