

Dr. R. Vincent Murray, Jr., born August 15, 1922 in Austin, Texas, died Tuesday, April 28, 2015. He was the son of Dr. Robert Vincent Murray, Sr. and Jessie Ramsey Murray, and a great grandson of Edward and Regina Zimmerman, German immigrants to central Texas in the 1840s.
He attended Austin High School and the University of Texas at Austin, receiving his medical degree in 1945 from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He performed a year of internship in Philadelphia, then a residency in internal medicine at the Scott and White Clinic in Temple, Texas. He served in the army for two years as a medical officer at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas during the Korean conflict. He then returned to Austin where he practiced medicine until his retirement in 2002.
In September of 1950 he married Claire Scott of Austin. Their marriage lasted over 62 years until her death in December, 2012. He is survived by three sons: Scott Vincent Murray and his wife, Betty; Dr. John Sinclair Murray and his wife, Susan; and Robert Lewis Murray and his wife, Gayle. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Dr. Murray was a faithful member and deacon of Great Hills Baptist Church. He also participated for many years as a member of the Gideons International, including serving for a time as a president of the Austin Gideon camp.
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 8, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. A brief graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at Austin Memorial Park followed by a memorial service at 3:30 p.m. at Great Hills Baptist Church in the Great Hall, 10500 Jollyville, Road, Austin, TX 78759.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gideons International or to a charity of your choice.
