Randy Whitfield

Randolph (Randy) Whitfield (79) of Leander, Texas, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Wednesday, April 8, 2015. Randy was born in Taylor, Texas, on July 2, 1935, to James and Elsie Whitfield.

Randy was raised in Austin, graduating from Austin High School. At the age of 16 he met the love of his life, Carol Eugenia Norwood. They were later married on July 16th, 1954.

Randy served in the Texas Army National Guard. Working as a union carpenter. Randy was a proud member of Austin Carpenters Local 1266, as well as an owner of The Bar-B-Q Hut in Austin. After living in Austin for over 35 years Randy and Carol moved their family to Leander, Texas in August of 1972. Randy loved living in the country and enjoyed working on their land. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching football, fishing, riding his Harley and working in the yard. Randy was preceded in death by his wife Carol and son, Randolph B. Whitfield. He is survived by daughter, Olivia Whitfield; daughter Melanie Ledesma and husband Eddie Ledesma; brothers Flannigan and Ronald Whitfield; grandson Scott Cockrell; granddaughters Cassandra Cockrell, Jacqueline Batterson, Ashley Ledesma, Brittany Ledesma; and six great-grandchildren.

Randy was a past member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and a Mason. Randy had many friends that visited him and was time he truly treasured. One of his life long friends is Charles Werchan of Harrah Oklahoma, whom he kept in constant contact with and treasured their friendship.

Over the last few years Randy has been in and out of the hospital, but always found a way to bounce back and was called a tough old bird. His love for his family was amazingly strong and he was always there for all his family.

Randy was treasured as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

A time of visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Sunday, April 12, 2015, at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 13, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Bagdad Cemetery, Leander, Texas. Pallbearers will be Scotty Cockrell, Ronnie Norwood, Sr., Ronnie Norwood, Jr., Joshua Whitfield, Dennis Hambrick, and Greg Norwood.
