

Ray graduated from Versailles High School where he excelled in sports. Soon after graduating he began working at IBM in the Procurement department. In 1968 he transferred with IBM to Austin, Texas with his family. During his time at IBM he earned an Associate Degree at Pace University in New York. He retired from IBM after 35 years of service. Ray was a member of the Army Reserves in the early 1960’s. He also was an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church where he served as both Deacon and Elder. Ray enjoyed fishing with his friends and always looked forward to spending time with his family.
Ray is preceded in death by his daughter, Sandy Sturgeon; parents, Raymond, Sr. and Laura Sturgeon; sisters, Ora Mae Sturgeon and Dottie Reed and brother, Tom Sturgeon.
He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of almost 58 years, Mary Louise; daughter, Carol and her husband, Todd, and the joy of his life, his granddaughter, Amy. Ray was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening, on Friday, the 5th of July 2013, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas
A memorial service will be conducted at one o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 6th of July, at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3003 Northland Drive, Austin under the direction of Cook-Walden Funeral Home.
