

Richard Dee Long, 61, of Austin, Texas, passed away after a brief illness on August 9, 2014. He was born November 8, 1952 in Waco, Texas to Don and Johnnie Long. Richard was a longtime resident of Austin and worked for the Texas Parks and Wildlife for over 40 years. He was a graduate of Del Valle High School and Howard Payne University. He was also a longtime member of Onion Creek Baptist Church where he served as nursery worker for many years.
Richard was predeceased by his brother James Long and his grandparents, Frank and Ivy Long and John and Ethel Wagner. He is survived by his parents Don and Johnnie Long, sisters Lecia Caudle and her husband David, Donna Weiss and her husband Bryan. Also seven nieces and nephews, their spouses, and one great nephew and great niece.
His love of country and western swing music led him to have a vast number of friends in the Austin music industry, several local artist have shared with his family that he was their "number one fan." He also greatly loved old movies and TV shows, among his favorite was "The Andy Griffith Show." He could quote movie and TV dialogue with the greatest of ease. We know he and his brother Jim will be having a good time on the front porch of heaven laughing and talking.

A visitation will be held at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N. Lamar Blvd. Tuesday, August 12, 2014 from 6:00-8:00. Graveside Services will be held at Rosemound Cemetery 3201 South 12th St. Waco, TX at 10:30 am on Wednesday, August 13th 2014.
