He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Richard was born to Alfred Odom and Ethel Irene Brown in Decatur, Texas, on November 22, 1942. He graduated in 1963 from the Texas School for the Deaf in Austin, and afterwards studied printing at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. Richard worked at the Texas Rehabilitation Commission in Austin, and he later went to work as a printer for the Texas Comptroller's of Public Accounts, where he retired after 29 years.
Richard enjoyed socializing with people in the deaf community, and was actively involved in the Austin Club for the Deaf and the Travis Association of Deaf Senior Citizens.
He is survived by Sylvia, his devoted wife of 42 years; his two children: Kristi and Mark; one grandson Gabriel; as well as his brother Gordon, and sister Nelda Askey.
A memorial gathering for family and friends will take place from 2:00p.m. until 4:00p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home located at 2620 South Congress, Austin 78704.
