Rickey Gibbs was born on October 16,1956 in Shreveport, LA. He was raised in Keithville, Louisiana by his mother, Dossie Gibbs Jones, and his paternal grandparents, Ruben Gibbs, Sr and Essie Dee Aires Gibbs.
At an early age, Rickey gave his life to Christ and became a member of the Galilee Baptist Church, in Keithville, Louisiana, under the guidance of the late Reverend W.L. Davis. He later united with Mt. Canaan Baptist Church, where he served under the leadership of the late Reverend Harry Blake.
He was educated in Caddo Parish and quickly rose to prominence as a basketball star, graduating from Southwood High School in 1974. Following graduation, Rickey proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1974-1978. He was promoted and departed from the Army ranked as a Sergeant. Some of his military decorations and medals include National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Pistol .45 Marksman Badge and Rifle M-16 Marksman Badge.
Professionally, he excelled as a top sales representative for the Shreveport Times for many years before becoming an entrepreneur. With passion and purpose, he launched Reginald’s Pick Up and Delivery, a respected business specializing in antique transport and setup from services.
In 1980, Rickey launched into fatherhood, with the birth of his oldest child Reginald from Annie Pearl Barnes. Then in 1981, he married Bernardine Sykes (Gibbs) who also had a son Jason from a prior relationship. From this union came Jessica and Jonathan, completing his initial family unit.
In 2016, God ordained a new chapter in his life when he met Carron Scott Whittaker. Their love blossomed into a beautiful union, sealed with a Hawaiian wedding in 2021. Through their life together, they embraced a blended and extended family with open arms – welcoming Carron’s daughter, Kyla; Carron’s father Clarence Scott Sr. and later adopting some of Carron’s sisters children - two nephews and two nieces.
