
Robert Jesse Carver passed away September 14, 2003. He was born on June 9, 1922 in Wheeler, Texas. His parents were Robert and Annie Lackey Carver. Later he and his family moved to Merced, California. After graduation from Merced High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served in the Submarine Combat Unit during World War II in the Pacific Area. He received many recognitions for his combat patrols, including the Presidential Unit Citation. Later he participated in Operation Crossroads, ordered by the Joint Chiefs of Staff, to test the effects of the Atomic Bomb on Naval vessels which was conducted at Bikini Atoll, Marshall Islands in the South Pacific. After his discharge from the Navy, he attended Indiana University at Bloomington, Indiana and received a B.S. and M.S. degrees in Business Administration. Later, he was employed at Ford Motor Company, Dearborn Michigan; Creole (Standard Oil) Company in Caracas, Venezuela, South America; Eastern Airlines, Miami, Florida and Lockheed Corporation in Clear Lake, Houston, Texas. He retired in 1982 and later moved to Austin, Texas. He had great appreciation for his home and family. In his spare time, he was an avid golfer. He is survived by his wife Margaret whom he married in 1949, three sons and daughter-in-laws, David and Mona, Robert and Susan, John and Debbie. Also, two granddaughters Leigh and Andrea Carver and two grandsons Justin and Zachary Carver. Also, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Annie. Also two brothers Joe and Troy. A private family graveside service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or American Cancer Society.
