Robert Francis Perrin, 60, passed away peacefully on the twenty-sixth of December 2011, after a short but valiant struggle against cancer. Born in Brooklyn, New York, on the thirteenth of April 1951, Bob was the eldest of four children born to Shirley Case Wagner. The family moved to Des Moines, Iowa, where, in 1970, Bob graduated from Lincoln High School. He soon entered the Army and was stationed in Kitzingen, W. Germany, for three years, where he received training as a counselor to soldiers during their military service while stationed in W. Germany. After his Army discharge, Bob stayed in Europe for another three years as a salesman for Bose Corporation.
In 1980, Bob moved to Austin, Texas, where he entered private business and met the love of his life, Pennye Gail McIlroy. They married in 1989. Together, they have raised two beautiful daughters and have owned and operated HSR Construction, Inc. for over twenty-five years and continues to thrive.
Bob loved to read. When he was a little boy, his mother often found him reading a book sitting in his red Radio Flyer or up in the branches of a tree. Bob was really smart; he had a quick, analytical mind and kept abreast of the latest technologies. He was passionate about running his business and consequently, was very successful. He was a man’s man. He loved to fiddle with gadgets, play softball, and watch action movies on TV. His family called him B-Bob and loved him very much. He had an infectious smile. We will miss Bob greatly but cherish his parting promise to us: “Together Forever.”
Bob had a passion for helping others in need. He was a caring listener. As a “friend of Bill W’s,” he served as a mentor at Austin’s Communities for Recovery and at the Texas Star Recovery Program.
He was preceded in death by his beloved father-in-law, Jack R. McIlroy of Corpus Christi. He is survived by his mother, Shirley Wagner; wife, Pennye; daughter, Ashley and husband Justin Blumoff; daughter, Taylor Perrin; granddaughter, Laven, and yet-to-be-born grandson, Redford Blumoff; sister, Eileen Perrin; brother, Warren and wife, Mickey Perrin; brother, Michael Wagner; sister-in-law, Rhonda Wagner; sister-in-law, Debby Citti; mother-in-law, Betty Johnson; brother-in-law, Jack R. McIlroy Jr. and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, December thirtieth at two o’clock in the afternoon at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N. Lamar, Austin, with a catered reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Communities for Recovery, 4110 Guadalupe, Bldg. 635, Austin, Texas 78751 (www.communitiesforrecovery.com) or the Flatwater Foundation, 4404 Travis Country Circle, Unit I1, Austin, Texas 78735 (www.flatwaterfoundation.org), an organization that links cancer patients and their loved ones with mental health therapy and family support.
