Robert Martin Schmitt

Robert "Bob" Schmitt was born January 25, 1923 in Evansville, IN to Martin H. Schmitt and Loretta Wagner. He passed away on December 3, 2009 in Austin, TX at the age of 86 surrounded by his beloved family. Bob was raised and received his education in Evansville, Indiana. He joined the Army during World War II, serving in the Pacific for 4 years. Bob returned home to marry his wife of 64 years, Frances Flora Schmitt. In 1967, Bob and his family relocated from Lexington, KY to Austin so he could be a part of the start-up team, establishing the local IBM plant. He retired from IBM Corporation after 30 years of service. Bob was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Mary Lee Geier. Bob will be truly missed by his loving wife, Fran, daughters, Nina Aldridge and her husband, Dale, and Jenny Greer, grand- daughters, Aubrie Aldridge, Adrienne Lindsey , Whitney Greer, and Shelby Greer, great-grandchildren, Shawn and Taylor Lindsey. The family will receive friends and family Monday, December 7, 2009 from 1-2 pm at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin, TX and a memorial service will be celebrated at 2 pm in the chapel of the funeral home.
