Rodolfo (Rudy, “El Serio”) Valerio Garcia was called to eternal rest on April 1, 2024 in Austin, Texas surrounded by his loving family. Rudy was born on August 30, 1943 in Benavides Texas to Lorenzo Garcia, Sr. and Concepcion Valerio Garcia. After graduating from Benavides High School he attended Texas A&I University where he graduated with a degree in mathematics. In 1964 he married his high-school sweet heart, Elda Saenz, and he started his career as an educator in Corpus Christi, Texas before moving to Austin, Texas where he spent many years working for the Veteran’s Administration in the computer field.
Rudy was a kind, generous and devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and primo (including his primos by marriage)! He had a great sense of humor and he loved to talk. In his later years he devoted much of his time to searching for, meeting, and reconnecting with his cousins; he had a deep love for family and friends and a real zest for life. He was aptly described by one of his beloved cousins who said, “Rudy will be in our prayers, he has been such a funny incredible “Primo” for all of his us. His laughter and the good of Family has always been his Joy. His love and funny stories will always be treasures for me.” He will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew him.
Rudy is preceded in death by the his parents, Lorenzo Sr. and Concepcion Garcia, his in-laws, Policarpio and Emma Saenz, his beloved wife Elda Saenz Garcia, and his brother Lorenzo Garcia, Jr.
Rudy is survived by his son, Gilbert Garcia; daughter Melissa (Bryan) Hastings; grandchildren, Analicia (Jamal) Garcia, Marian Nicole Garcia, and Brayden Charles Hastings; great-grandchildren, Gianni Garcia, Everett Wheeler and Percival Wheeler; brother Lee (Irene) Garcia all of Austin, Texas and also by his sister Elva (Rene) Ramirez of Kingsville, Texas; sister-in-law Alma Garcia of Laredo, Texas, brother-in law Armando (Esperanza) Saenz of McAllen, Texas, sister-in-law Diana (Ramiro) Hernandez of Alice, Texas, and sister-in-law Maria Olga (Hope) Saenz of San Antonio, Texas.
Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday April 27, 2024 at Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Church in Benavides, Texas followed by burial at Antonio Lopez Family Cemetery in San Jose, Texas.
